Spoiled by Wet n Wild Distant Memory and Pet My Peacock

Today's mani is two nice coats of Spoiled by Wet n Wild in Distant Memory topped with one coat of Pet My Peacock. Distant Memory has a satin finish, the first two pictures are without topcoat to show the finish. I prefer it with topcoat which makes the pretty delicate shimmer stand out.

Smitten Polish Hocus Pocus

Today I have swatches of Smitten Polish Hocus Pocus (anyone else love that movie?) I got this on sale after Halloween which leads me to believe that it was limited edition.

Hocus Pocus is a gorgeous vibrant, medium-dark, purple jelly base with purple and pink holo glitter.

These picture were taken in sunlight, and I believe I am wearing three coat of polish.

Chequered Lily Apothecary Valentine's Day Swatches Part 2!

For today's post I've swatched the rest of the Valentine's Day collection by Chequered Lily Apothecary. If you'd like to see part one check it out here!

The swatches on the website are a bit misleading because of how sheer the eyeshadows look on bare skin in the pictures. When you see them in person though? You will not be disappointed. The older eyeshadows in the shop are beautiful in their own right, but the newer additions to the CLA line are mind blowingly gorgeous!

**I received these eyeshadows from a giveaway held by CLA. My name was put in a metal tin and randomly chosen. I was not asked to do a review, or compensated in any way. These are my 100% honest thoughts**

In February I won the monthly giveaway on the Chequered Lily Apothecary Facebook page, and won a sample set of the Valentine's Day collection. The samples I received included the two glitter blends, three eyeshadows and the single blush from the V-Day collection. And Kimberly (the owner) added two additional samples of Fireflies and Galaxy. For this post I am focusing on Lovesong, Hearts In Ice, Broken Hearts, and Enrapture of the V-Day collection.

"For the Valentine's Day 2013 collection I was inspired by the the extremes of the heart, from the heights of passion to the depths of heartache. I looked to two modern poets, Kenneth Patchen and Pablo Neruda to guide my creativity on this project. I used #81 Love Like Winter for a starting point and worked in a confined color palette to create this collection."

Lovesong: "“As we are so wonderfully done with each other/ We can walk into our separate sleep/ On floors of music where the milkwhite cloak of childhood lies/ O my lady, my fairest dear, my sweetest, loveliest one/ Your lips have splashed my dull house with the speech of flowers / My hands are hallowed where they touched over your/ soft curving./ It is good to be weary from that brilliant work / It is being God to feel your breathing under me/ A waterglass on the bureau fills with morning.../ Don’t let anyone in to wake us.” -Kenneth Patchen, “As We Are So Wonderfully Done With Each Other”
and of course, “However far away/ I will always love you...” -The Cure, “Lovesong” Metallic burgundy-red with red pearl and blue glitter and iridescence.
"

Pretty spot on description, though I would say the base color is more of a mauve-ish burgundy.

Hearts In Ice: "“Speak softly; sun going down/ Out of sight. Come near me now./ Dear dying fall of wings as birds/ complain against the gathering dark.../ Exaggerate the green blood in grass;/ the music of leaves scraping space;/ Multiply the stillness by one sound;/ by one syllable of your name.../ And all that is little is soon giant,/ all that is rare grows in common beauty/ To rest with my mouth on your mouth/ as somewhere a star falls/ And the earth takes it softly, in natural love.../ Exactly as we take each other.../ and go to sleep...” -Kenneth Patchen, “Fall Of The Evening Star”. Royal blue with subtle violet undertone and intense red iridescence.
Perfect description! And an abso-fucking-lutely beautiful eyeshadow!

Broken Hearts: "“I write the lips of the moon upon her shoulders. In a/ temple of silvery farawayness I guard her to rest./ For her bed I write a stillness over all the swans of the/ world. With the morning breath of the snow leopard I/ cover her against any hurt./ Using the pen of rivers and mountaintops I store her/ pillow with singing./ Upon her hair I write the looking of the heavens at/ early morning./ -- Away from this kingdom, from this last undefiled/ place, I would keep our governments, our civilization, and /all other spirit-forsaken and corrupt institutions./ O cold beautiful blossoms of the moon moving upon/ her shoulders . . . the lips of the moon moving there . . ./ where the touch of any other lips would be a profanation.” -Kenneth Patchen, “There Are Not Many Kingdoms Left”. Blue-violet glitter blend with ruby red and pink and blue iridescent glitters."
The red and pink glitters are very subtle compared to the blue, but it makes for a lovely combination that doesn't look like boring, flat blue.

Enraptured: "“Be a voice, sky, / That her beauties may be counted / And the stars will tilt their quiet faces / Into the mirror of her loveliness...” -Kenneth Patchen, “Be Music, Night”. Rich orange-toned red with slight red shimmer, HIGHLY pigmented."
For. Real. This is like an extremely pigmented blush. SOO pigmented! This has a matte, warm toned red base with a delicate amount of red shimmer. I think this would be a nice eyeshadow too.

Chequered Lily Apothecary Swatches and Look!

Do you ever open a package of new sparklies and are completely blown away by how complex and unique an eyeshadow is? That's how I feel about Chequered Lily Apothecary (CLA).

For this post I am focusing on Crush, and Hearts of Fire of the V-Day collection.

Crush: "“Ay, Love is a journey through waters and stars,/ through suffocating air, sharp tempests of grain:/ Love is a war of lightning,/ and two bodies ruined by a single sweetness.” -Pablo Neruda, “Carnal Apple, Woman Filled, Burning Moon” Ruby red and blue glitter blend with blue iridescence."
The blue iridescence is not predominant, but the glitter is lovely and changes colors at different angles.

Hearts of Fire: "“I do not love you except because I love you;/ I go from loving to not loving you,/ From waiting to not waiting for you/ My heart moves from cold to fire./ I love you only because it's you the one I love;/ I hate you deeply, and hating you/ Bend to you, and the measure of my changing love for you/ Is that I do not see you but love you blindly./ Maybe January light will consume
My heart with its cruel/ Ray, stealing my key to true calm./In this part of the story I am the one who/ Dies, the only one, and I will die of love because I love you,/ Because I love you, Love, in fire and blood.” -Pablo Neruda, “I Do Not Love You Except Because I Love You” Vibrant true red with red pearl and color-shifting blue-fuchsia-violet iridescent glitter.
"

Spot on description. A perfect red eyeshadow, not too warm, not too cool. I love it!

For this look I used:
ELF Eyelid Primer
Darling Girl Glitter Glue
Wet n Wild Brulee on the browbone
WnW white matte on the inner corner
Chequered Lily Apothecary Crush on the lid
CLA Hearts of Fire in the crease and outer corner
Maybelline Line Stiletto liquid liner in black
Maybelline Lash Stiletto mascara in black

Darling Girl Cosmetics Watercolor Paint Pot "American Gothic" look

A very simple, sparkly look featuring Darling Girl cosmetics "American Gothic" Watercolor Paint Pot. The Watercolor Paint Pots (WPP) are super soft, almost whipped like, cream eyeshadows. I've found that using a brush sheers the color, so I like to use a brush to swipe on the first semi-sheer layer and let that set for a minute. Then I apply a second layer by patting the WPP on the eyelid with my finger to build up the opacity. One tip I would recommend is to use a brush to blend out the edges before the final layer sets, that way you won't be left with any harsh edges.

The Darling Girl website says:

"Watercolor Paint Pots can be used  as a stand alone color or as a base to enhance whatever color you layer over it.Watercolor Paint Pots have a soft creamy consistency; they are not water proof, but once set, they are pretty smudge proof.  They have almost a cream-to-powder effect. Simply apply your regular primer. Using a stiff-bristled brush, apply a thick line along the lash line and blend out."
American Gothic: A shimmery, metallic, pink toned beige with pink and purple sparkles/glitter.
Since putting together this post Susan has taken down the listing for American Gothic. There are other really beautiful WPP so I suggest checking them out the WPP section on the DG website.

**This was bought by me BEFORE I became a Darling Girl model for the Pick Of The Week. No discount code was used on this purchase.**
